Chiran Samurai Residence Gardens
Also known as “Little Kyoto of Satsuma (old name for Kagoshima)”, the Samurai residence gardens are the main spot of Chiran. The gardens were built in Edo period (1600s-1800s) and has been well conserved, as well as the beautiful hedges and the old stone walls along the little lanes. A variety of seasonal flowers are available.

Chiran Peace Museum
At Peace museum, as known as Kamikaze pilot museum, you can learn what was happening at the end of World War 2 in Chiran. The exhibits include four Kamikaze aircrafts, letters and testaments by the pilots, as well as photographs of 1306 pilot.

Mt. Kaimon viewpoint
From the viewpoint known as “Chabakken hill” (“Cha” means tea and “Bakken” means terrace in Kagoshima dialect), you can enjoy the panoramic view of Mt. Kaimon and the tea terraces on a clear day. Chiran area takes great pride in being number one producer of green tea in Japan and also produces rice, sweet potatoes, and buckwheat with its fertile soil.
* Lunch is not included in the tour fee. However, I will take you to a local cuisine restaurant or an easy coffee / tea stop, depending on your preference.
